If it was up to Rygart, he would be a carefree, laidback, and weak kind of guy. He certainly does his best to come off as such a person, and it's not particularly hard for him. Born in a world where it's the norm to use magic, he stands out as an anomaly by being completely incapable of using magic. He can't use even the most basic of technology due to his lack of magical ability, and it's done a number on his life. Rygart laughs pain off and tries to come off as callous and uncaring when hurt, and his opinion of himself is remarkably low. No one would or should be interested in a guy who can only farm by hand for the rest of his life.

All that said though, he's a good person. Despite being told things like "it's okay to run away" by his father whom he greatly respected, even if he denies it, upon realizing that there is something that only he can do to potentially save his friends lives, he doesn't run away. His friends practically encourage him to, not wanting to see him put his life in danger, but Rygart chooses to join the military rather than return home to a simple farming life in order to try and protect something instead. He hates being told not to worry about the loss of human life just because they're all in the middle of a war. As much as he tries not to look it, Rygart cares about people, even relative strangers. He initially hesitates to take an enemy soldier's life, instead naively suggesting to capture them instead, and refuses to listen when a problem soldier's own father tells him to kill the problem soldier if needed. Rygart believes in the good of people, even if he shows it in a rather rough and angry way.

Having more or less been raised as a farmer his whole life, Rygart is naturally unused to the harshness of war. After getting an ally killed due to wanting to save an enemy, he quickly wises up, telling himself that he has to "get used to killing". While having gone to a military academy earlier in life and actually being promoted even without the ability to use magic, Rygart is not the most talented soldier, and he'd be the first to admit it. He is very much a combat pragmatist, making use of whatever he can on the fly; more often than not, he breaks the swords he uses in unorthodox and bizarre ways, much like the giant robot he pilots. On the other hand, Rygart does very poorly under pressure. He isn't good at keeping a calm head when on the defensive, using straightforward and simple tactics that are easily beaten, and doesn't think straight when people he cares for are in danger. When he woke up from passing out and saw that enemy soldiers were trying to force his cockpit open, he downright panicked, screaming as he tried to struggle free.
